Military Al Mernick sent a thank you to Frank Beyt and the CVTC for his banner.
Re-water systems, Inc. sent a letter about capturing gray water which we will pass onto the CVWD for their consideration.
The CV Chamber sent a letter announcing their 2007 awards. President Andrus congratulated the winners who were in attendance: Volunteer of the Year Richard Toyon, Woman of the Year Sharon Raghavachary, and Organization of the Year CVHS ROTC.
8. Committee Reports
Election and Nominating Committee Councilmember Smiley
Election is Saturday Nov 3 at CVHS from 9 to 5 with the committee being Council members Thomas and Pierce. Oct 27th is the last day for absentee ballots to be requested. Many have already been requested.
Treasurer’s Report Councilmember Pierce
Balance $18736.79 with designated funds subtracted balance is $5575.37.
Banner Committee Councilmember Erickson
Banners are up. Thank you to Co chair Ray Larsen who got the TV and press to cover the 3 of us waiting for the banners to arrive this morning. Thanks to Frank Beyt as well who was able to stay most of the day. The rest of the banners will go up tomorrow. There will be a banner dedication on 11/10 at 10 AM at the American Legion Hall. (Time has since been changed to 9:30 AM for the CVHS ROTC to be able to do a military presentation.)
Foothill Design Committee Councilmember Raghavachary
The meeting with the county could not have gone better. They said it was the best presentation ever. The public meeting will be Nov 13 7-9 PM at Rosemont. The mailing will go to all property owners and maybe the public.
9. Items from Council
President Andrus reported on conservation for the Library, answering a previous question from resident Kerry Erickson.
President Andrus reported on progress of "Welcome to La Crescenta" signs and Pickens Canyon Park.
Councilmember Thomas reported that he and President Andrus met with Mary Reyes of the Dept of Public Works about the grant proposal. There are 3 grants and 28 organizations applying for the $350k most of which will go to salary of county coordinator of the program. Bike lanes and hiking paths will be part of our proposal.
The Meeting was turned over to the Election Committee for the Candidate Forum at 7:20 p.m.
10. Vice-President Smiley introduced the other Election Committee members The Candidates Forum for the CVTC was moderated by Richard Toyon.
VP Smiley thanked the Supervisor and his staff for all their help in this election and the GUSD for arranging for the election to be at CVHS Career Center this year.
The 9 candidates present (Todd Thornberry was in New York) were Frank Beyt, Liz Arnold, Susie Fighera, Grace Andrus, Charles Beatty, Dennis van Bremen, E. Bonnie Marshall Creel, Cheryl Davis, and Sue Kilpatrick. Each was given 3 minutes to introduce themselves and answer questions posed by the audience.
11. Announcements
The Crescenta Valley Heritage will hold another forum for both the CVWD Candidates and the CVTC Candidates on Oct. 22, 2007, at 7 p.m. at the Church of Religious Science in La Crescenta on Santa Carlotta Ave.
