Scholarship Awards Presented- Councilmember Erickson
Councilmember
Erickson presented $250 awards to each of the twelve scholarship recipients
along with President Andrus.

Representative for Senator Margett, Steve Johnson, representative for Assemblyman
Adams, Andy Garcia, representative for Congressman Drier and Rita Hadjimanoukian,
representative of Supervisor Antonovich, presented separate awards to the
scholarship recipients.

Short break was taken for photographs with the student award winners.

Comments from Officials
California
Highway Patrol
Officer
Todd Workman noted that there were no fatalities since last month in our area.
He said that Officer Coull checked traffic on Mountain Avenue for traffic
exceeding the speed limit. The stop
sign has slowed speeding down considerably on that street. . Officer Workman
said that due to a complaint they would also be checking for speeding violations
on Glenwood Avenue.
Los
Angeles County Sheriff
Lieutenant
Joe Eflandt reported that there were no homicides, there were 37 Part One
offences, 54 vandalisms and 7 narcotic violations.
Los
Angeles County Fire Department
Chief
William Mayfield reports that there were no fires in April but there were 45
rescues. The Catalina fire ended
burning short of 5000 acres. Griffith
Park only burned 800 acres.
Crescenta
Valley CERT
Dudley
Rainey and Tim Silurik made
statements regarding CERT. Mr.
Rainey discussed the 1986 Mexico City disaster and Los Angeles City Fire
assisted in Mexico City and as a result of that decided to form CERT which shows
people how to assess individual injuries in a disaster and how to deal with the
problems in helping citizens deal with a disaster in their area.
Student
Council Representative
Annie
Lawler introduced the new student who replaced William Cho. The new student representative is Gregg Kilpatrick.
Representative Kilpatrick informed the meeting of the
upcoming June 2, 2007 Crescenta Valley High School fare.
Proceeds from the fare will benefit the “Invisible Children of
Uganda”. The fare will include a
carnival and a walk a thon from 10:30 a. m. to 4: 00 p. m.

The
Falcon Award Scholarships will be given at an 8:45 p. m. Assembly, June 5, 2007
with a reception to follow.

Santa
Monica Mountains Conservancy
Commissioner
Lawren Markle stated that he was the new representative from Altadena Town
Council to the Conservancy. He
represents Altadena and La Crescenta.
He is a member of the Altadena Foothills Conservancy.
His e-mail address is lawren@altadenafoothills.org.
Mr. Markle met with President Andrus and discussed trials and trailheads
for our community.

Public Comments
Anne
Mc Neill stated that her home was burglarized May 1, 2007. She had three useful tips for the community which is:
Lisa
Bailo stated that she is a sixteen year resident of our area in the
Glendale Annex section and she is against over development of La Crescenta.
She wanted to know the status of the Mountain Oaks project. President Andrus stated that it was,” dead in the water”
and that that was a quote from Mayor Najarian.
Ms. Bailo also wanted to know the status of the following subjects,
Verdugo Hills Golf Course, the Gym on Lowell Avenue, and the Chief
Administrative Officer for the County of Los Angeles regarding the diminishing
power of the Supervisors. President
Andrus informed her of items presently in motion such as the liaison between the
CVTC and Glendale City Council and the CSD for Foothill Blvd.
Michael
Morgan stated that the Historical society will participate in the, “Relay for
Life”, May 19-20, 2007 at 9:00 a. m. at Clark Magnet School and will dedicate
their participation to two past residents, Andy W. Clark and Marion Morrison (aka
John Wayne).
Mike
Lawler stated that the Community Standards District for Montrose and La
Crescenta did not do enough to limit development in the area.
He feels the Land Use Committee is a neutral body for informational
purposes.

Councilmember
Erickson read a letter about a CVWD Water Awareness gathering at Sycamore Water
Treatment Plant. The event is
Saturday May 19, 2007 from 11:00 a.m. To
2:00 p.m.
Girl
Scouts Mt. Wilson Council invited President Andrus to attend the Girl Scouts
Gold Award ceremony at Occidental College June 16, 2007, pre-ceremony reception
at 2:00 p. m. and ceremony at 3:00 p.m.
Eagle
Scouts, Troop 391, Court of Honor, invited the CVTC members to attend an award
ceremony for receiving the rank of Eagle Scout at 4:00 p. m. June 16, 2007 at the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day
Saints at 4550 Raymond Avenue in La Crescent, California.

Commission
Councilmember
Pierce stated that the commission met last week and that they were reviewing the
possibilities for an outdoor theater at Two Strike Park.
The
Arts Commission is supporting the new Crescenta Valley Arts Council.
Banners
Committee
Councilmembers
Erickson and Mr. Ray Larsen report that they want to recognize the armed forces
from our area by obtaining the names of local servicemen and women.
Councilmember
Erickson is calling this effort, “C.V. Hometown
Heroes”.
Banners
are proposed for Foothill Boulevard in the unincorporated area of the County.
Sponsors for the banners are needed and contributions from the community
are needed.

Pierce reported that the amendment to change the by-law regarding elections has
been tabled pending a meeting of all Councilmembers regarding this subject.

Councilmember
Pierce reported that Zeke’s fundraiser was a success and that the silent
auction for the Fourth of July needs gifts to auction.
He is open to any additional ideas for the auction.

Developer cancelled the meeting. No
re-schedule as yet.
Library
Committee
President
Andrus reported that the County gave approval for the Time Capsule in the
Library and asked Historical Society leader Mike Lawler to work with the Council
on getting items together to present at the ground breaking ceremony.
There
will be a brass medallion art piece placed in the floor of the new
Library, donated by the Historical Society, depicting historical scenes.
Groundbreaking
for the new Library will be June 28, 2007 at 5:00 p.m. at the sight of the
original Library.

Erickson states that Supervisor Antonovich will appear at the Glendale
Homeowner’s Council, at the Community Church on Canada Boulevard, Monday, June
4, 2007 at 7:00 p.m.

Pierce states that Jean Maluccio, Executive Director of the Crescenta Valley
Chamber of Commerce is preparing a 2007 Interactive Community Map.

Andrus announced that the Arbor Day tape will be aired on Monday, May 28
(Memorial Day). She said Memorial
Day ceremony will be held at 8:00 a.m. at Two Strike Park.
Memorial Day Ceremony will be at 8:00 a.m. Montrose at Ocean View.
Councilmember
Beatty also announced that the Arbor Day Tape will also be aired tonight at 9:30
p. m. on Charter Channel 25.
