Donald  Wurst, 3025 Paraiso Way, has been working on his lighting for 15 years

Leo Lesh, 2527 Fairway Avenue, owner of Leo’s All Star Sports Bar on Honolulu, puts up more lights in the backyard than in the front and his reason for doing it is their daughter, Haley

6.  Comments from Officials

Crime report for November 2005:  27 part one crimes, 13 burglaries, 10 larceny crimes, several crimes had victims at CVHS and 2 inside classrooms.  There were 5 people arrested, ages 18 – 19 years old, and CVHS students arrested.  They stole cash and iPods.  There were also 9 vandalisms (graffiti), 5 narcotics (most out of the area).  Regarding the issues of private streets, residents there can seek ordinances for the Sheriff’s department to handle traffic issues.

 

October 2005 incident report:  13 traffic collisions,  2 injury - DUI related, November 2005 incident report:  10 traffic collisions,  4 injury

 

During December there has been 11/10 of an inch of rain.– lower than last year, increased well levels from last year.  81% of what we needed has been pumped, 5% below our baseline of conservation.  There were two public hearings to finalize rate increase.  There was approved a rate raise of $2 base rate and 7%.

There have been two fire hydrants replaced.

A report about where we are, where we are going, what we see for our area will be available online shortly.

There is upgrading pipes on Pontiac, Fairmount, and Los Olivos in March.

Ms. Ross was re-elected as president, and Mr. Atwater as Vice-President.

January meetings will be the 10th and the 24th (usually the 2nd and 4th Tuesday).

Employee Lopez was honored for 25 years of service.

Judy Tejeda will be representing the Water District in January.

The Water District has purchased a sewer cleaning truck – which cost $200,000.

Geologic studies for the aquifer recharge have been going well.  Legal issues of how much water we are able to pump are being investigated.  The studies should be complete around March of 2006.

 

The New Mayor of LA County – Supervisor Antonovich

Top priorities for 2006:  public safety, transportation, services for mentally ill/homeless, adoption for foster children, equestrian and hiking trails expanded.

Supervisor Antonovich is also sponsoring a park and ride for the floats for the rose parade.  Informational paper passed out to the Council and public.

 

Rick Dinger was the Master of Ceremonies for the Montrose Christmas Parade.  Ms. Beck will get the re-run schedule for this year’s Parade.  It will be carried on channel six (check Glendale website) and channel twenty-five.

 

Saturday, January 14th is the Armenian Christmas celebration.

The library will have CVTC meeting tapes in the library available for check out.

 

Monday at 7 PM, will be the Christmas party held in the La Crescenta Woman’s Club where displays will include books and pictures of old times, Mr. Bausback will be available to comment on items, and there will be chorus groups from grammar and junior high school.  There will also be old toys available for viewing.  The Woman’s Club is celebrating 75 years and founding members include Mrs. Helen Thomas (Seymour Thomas’ wife), and Mrs. Bissell (Bissell company).

8.  Treasurer’s Report - Councilmember Erickson

                Balance over $5000, will mail checks to pay the bills.

 

9.  Items from Council

Councilmember Raghavachary has a wish list for 2006.  She wishes to purchase a DVD recorder and cables to use for our meetings.  Approximate cost is $130, + tax and cables, up to $175 for cables and recorder.  Motion seconded by Councilmember Beatty.  Passed unanimously.

Councilmember Raghavachary informed the public of the construction at the corner of Ramsdell Avenue and Foothill Blvd.  There will be built a Walgreens, 11750 square feet, 10 foot set back, same elevations as we saw before.

Councilmember Beatty:  There is a property on Paraiso Way, 3052, that should receive an honorable mention for Christmas decorations.  The owner is Michael Collar, producer of Still Standing.

            Councilmember Smiley:  badges discussed regarding color and form.

 

10.  Approve the council logo

New logo presented and a motion was made by Councilmember Lunt to adopt the new logo.  Seconded by President Hales.  Discussion – Councilmember Erickson:  The Council has had this logo for 15 years and she does not want to change it.  Councilmember Thomas:  The mountains portrayed in the logo are not ours.  Councilmember Beatty:  The former logo was approved by the community who voted by the logo.  Councilmember Raghavachary stated that residents have requested a new logo.  President Hales commented that change is not always bad.  It represents an update to the Council.  Councilmember Toyon discussed the logo details.  The font is Frank Lloyd Wright Font, the mountains are a view from the back side, looking onto the valley.  Vote passed 8 to 1. 

Badges:  Discussion of the image on badge.  Councilmember Raghavachary motioned to ad the image on the badge and Councilmember Lunt seconded.  Councilmember Beatty talked about having the name and “Councilmember” only and Councilmember Pierce felt the words with an enhanced font would be good.  Motion made by Councilmember Raghavachary to table this until we can see proof of the enhanced font.  Seconded by Councilmember Lunt.  Passed unanimously.

 

11.  Installation of newly elected CVTC members - President Hales

               

11. Election of CVTC Officers for 2006 - Councilmember Rawlins

            Councilmember Rawlins to conduct the election of the officers for 2006.

            President:  President Hales 6 votes to Councilmember Beatty’s 3 votes.

Vice President:  Councilmember Raghavachary 5 votes to Councilmember Smiley’s 4 votes.

Recording Secretary:  Councilmember Ostler:  9-0

Treasurer:  Councilmember Thomas:  9-0

Corresponding Secretary:  Councilmember Erickson 8 votes to Councilmember Rawlins’ 1 vote.
